Magnetic Reconnection in Sheared Solar Magnetic Arcades

چکیده

The evolution of solar magnetic arcades is investigated with the use of MHD simulations imposing resistivity on sheared magnetic elds. It is found that there is a critical amount of shear, over which magnetic reconnection can take place in an arcade-like eld geometry to create a magnetic island. The process leading to reconnection cannot be solely attributed to a tearing instability, but rather to a reactive evolution of the magnetic arcade under resistivity. The natures of the arcade reconnection are governed by the spatial pattern of resistivity. A fast reconnection with a small shock angle can only be achieved when the diiusion region is localized. In this case, a highly collimated reconnection outtow can tear the plasmoid into a pair, and most of principal features in solar eruptive processes are reproduced.

Generation of Alfvén Waves by Small-Scale Magnetic Reconnection in Solar Spicules

Alfvén waves dissipation is an extensively studied mechanism for the coronal heating problem. These waves can be generated by magnetic reconnection and propagated along the reconnected field lines. Here, we study the generation of Alfvén waves at the presence of both steady flow and sheared magnetic field in the longitudinally density stratified of solar spicules. The initial flow is assumed to...

The Role of Magnetic Reconnection in Solar Activity

We argue that magnetic reconnection plays the determining role in many of the various manifestations of solar activity. In particular, it is the trigger mechanism for the most energetic of solar events, coronal mass ejections and eruptive flares. We propose that in order to obtain explosive eruptions, magnetic reconnection in the corona must have an “on-off” nature, and show that reconnection i...

Soft X-ray flares and magnetic configuration in a solar active region in February 1992

In this paper, we examine the observational soft Xray flares and the relationship with photospheric vector magnetograms in the active region (NOAA 7070). We analyze the soft X-ray flare on Feb. 24-25, 1992, especially the pre-flare and the relationship with the highly sheared photospheric vector magnetic field near the photospheric magnetic neutral line. We find that the initial reconnection of...

Fan-spine Topology Formation through Two-step Reconnection Driven by Twisted Flux Emergence

We address the formation of 3D nullpoint topologies in the solar corona by combining Hinode/XRT observations of a small dynamic limb event, which occurred beside a non-erupting prominence cavity, with a 3D zero-β MHD simulation. To this end, we model the boundary-driven “kinematic” emergence of a compact, intense, and uniformly twisted flux tube into a potential field arcade that overlies a wea...

A Model for Solar Coronal Mass Ejections

We propose a new model for the initiation of a solar coronal mass ejection (CME). The model agrees with two properties of CMEs and eruptive Ñares that have proved to be very difficult to explain with previous models : (1) very low-lying magnetic Ðeld lines, down to the photospheric neutral line, can open toward inÐnity during an eruption ; and (2) the eruption is driven solely by magnetic free ...
